It's not a 5 minute process and the relationship you develop over the weeks and months with an instructor can be of valuable contribution to your learning and confidence. Some people are bursting with confidence whilst others may require reassurance and help in building a little self belief. Hop into an automatic car and the first thing you'll notice is that it's a lot easier to drive. Without the need to press the clutch or find the right gear, stalling becomes a thing of the past. Driving in slow-moving or stop-start traffic is made easier with an automatic. There's also a much smoother transition between gears, resulting in a more pleasant, judder-free ride.
In the current economic climate it's very tempting to go with the absolute cheapest option. However remember there's a difference between cheap and "value for money". There's a lot of very good professional driving instructors out there but there are also ones who show little real commitment to their students and even less in terms of good quality teaching skills and knowledge. The process may take you twice as long! Your learning and progress will be increased if you can have 1 and a half hour lessons.
